The changing of a life’s dream…changes coming to Planet Pleasing Goods.  As many of you know, a mere five months ago my life took an amazing change.  A second baby came in to our lives.  My life dream of bringing environmentally friendly goods to my small community changed instantly.  Although my passion for my customers and products runs deep, it all became insignificant when my new baby was crying for hours on end and all that soothed her (sometimes) was her momma.   Combine this with the economy and it simply no longer makes sense to continue this path.

The defining moments that made me see the not so green “light”.   The first was preparing our new space. I was 7 months pregnant and completely overwhelmed with the move.  I called on several of my beautiful friends to get me through- they helped with un-boxing, painting, anything I needed.  That was new for me, I’m used to doing things on my own.  But what I realized in that moment was that this was not a one- woman job.  Website, store front, mom, wife, environmental activist, gardener, cleaner, laundress-  NOPE, I needed at least 3 of me.

Then a few months after I moved locations a customer (one who knew my business well) was in the store and said to me, “I’m looking around and wondering why we don’t come here instead of Kmart when we’re in a hurry for a birthday present?”.   I remember thinking if I can’t convince those who know me (and my business) to shop locally, how can I convince the general public?  I’m wondering if any small store will ever be able to change the minds of habitual big box shoppers.  I beg of you to support your local stores or eventually they may all be a thing of the past.

There is a possible silver lining…we do have a potential buyer but the concept would change a bit.  It would be primarily boutique consignment with some of the eco products you know and love continuing like Charlie’s Soap, Reusable Snack bags, etc. 

To all who helped me get here including customers, friends and family, I thank you for your commitment to me, to small business and the environment and I’m sorry I let you down.  It will be a long time before I can let go of the letting you down part.

Beginning November 5th EVERYTHING (a few exceptions, see store for details) in the store will be 15% off and each week it will increase until everything is gone.  We’ll keep you posted on facebook and via the newsletter.
