Tree Bud
First Day of School

I think it is quite appropriate to start the Please the Planet Blog on the day my daughter started Kindergarten, after all she is a big reason I began this store and the eternal search for "planet pleasing" goods.  So, today is the day she left the "Eco- Bubble" I have created for her.  I will do what all parents do and hope that the virtues I have provided her (and will continue to provide) for the last five years will overcome the influences.  I know, I should be worried about (and probably will be soon enough) a plethora of other things.  But today I'm worried that kids will tease her for riding in a bike cart because we use it for transportation, or that she doesn't have "cool, commercialized" snacks in her lunch, or that not everyone considers composting worms their pet.  Well, let it be as it may- she's a pretty cool kid and part of that is because she loves and respects the world she lives in.

Like a good mom on the first day of school I brought in supplies on "the list", but I added a bit of an alternative twist.  Instead of "Purell" hand sanitizer, I opted for BabyGanics; instead of "Clorox" wipes, I brought in Shaklee Germ Off wipes; Seventh Generation tissues,   Prang Soy Crayons over Crayola and the list goes on.  While in some schools these items are completely normal, I'm not so sure about this school- this is new territory for me.  So, I'm just hoping the teacher doesn't peg me as crazy, but pegs me as a concerned mother who cares about the health of her child and the environment.

Not to worry this blog will extend far beyond mothering and kid topics, but today I'm wearing my mom hat so that is what prevails today.

I'm hoping you'll join me on this blogging journey in tackling the large and small issues of "Pleasing the Planet".
